Sprinkler System consists of a main delivery pump, diesel engine driven pump (if considered), a jockey pump, electric control panels, sprinkler heads and associated piping. The system is kept under continuous pressure through automatic intermittent operation of jockey pump.
The area to be protected is adequately covered with quartzoid bulbs and sprinkler nozzles. These may be ceiling or wall mounted. All sprinkler components are standard except for the glass bulbs which are graded according to operating temperature. When the air in the vicinity of the sprinkler reaches the operating temperature of the quartzoid bulb, liquid sealed in the glass bulb expands and breaks the bulb into small fragments. The seat is thrown clear of the sprinkler yoke and the water under pressure passes unobstructed through the yoke orifice. The stream of water impinges on the deflector plate and an evenly distributed water spray pattern is formed. This sequence of events is instantaneous.
The resulting pressure drop in the line actuates the pump automatically. Simultaneously, a hooter provided with an electric control panel starts emitting an alarm sound which alerts the personnel in the premises.
